“WhatsApp is a lifesaver when I am traveling out of the country and want to stay in contact with the family back home as well as some of my work colleagues. Being able to make free calls, have free chats – even group chats, send voice messages, pictures, videos is fantastic. So the first thing I do when I arrive in a different country is access wifi (ok sometimes you have to pay for that but it is nothing like paying international voice or data rates ) fire up WhatsApp and touch base with the people at home.
I was recently on an extended work placement in China and WhatsApp allowed me to stay in regular contact with the home office while not running up expense international calls – management looooved this and it made me a bit of an expense saving hero with the CFO. The calls are really clear and sometimes even better than cellphone calls depending on the cell coverage and wifi strength.
When you are not connected to Wifi, WhatsApp can use your data to connect which as I have an unlimited data plan allows me to make international calls from here in the US and again please the CFO or if they are personal calls, save myself a lot of money.
Overall I love WhatsApp, not the best for taking photos with and it sometimes glitches but I am nitpicking – you need to WhatsApp, particularly if you travel.”
