Closed Doors Lead to Better Opportunities for Growth

The sales profession can teach us excellent life lessons when we allow it. We only earn a fraction of the business that we attempt.

Our best foot forward is to remain calm and professional and remind ourselves that closed doors often lead us to better opportunities for growth.

Experience

Losing a client early in a sales career or business endeavor can be nerve-wracking and lead to the idea of quitting. But as similar events repeat, we begin to review it as routine. Moreover, it can bring a smile as we realize that the more ‘No’s’ we receive, the closer we can get to the ‘Yes!’ that we desire. How?

The most direct path to progress is to politely ask the person that for learning purposes you would like to know their reasoning. If there is anything you can improve upon please let me know. It’s remarkable what we can learn when we open the door to critique for learning purposes.

One critical door that has been shutting for many as of late is that of employment. It takes a ‘sales mindset’ to accept the need to seek work elsewhere and apply the skills that we have already learned for effective interviews.

Increase Interest in You

One marketing technique can assist the job hunt in the opposite way that most perceive, and that is to attract attention to your professional style by posting insights from previous experiences online. The caution is to never mention the names of individuals or companies to avoid legal issues.

Utilize platforms such as LinkedIn that attract professionals of all types.  By sharing your best, you will attract attention and encourage communication with the right people for collaborative possibilities helping you to become known, and occasionally job offers will appear.

Positive Thinking

When one door shuts, new and potentially better opportunities usually arise. While one may face temporary hardships or just frustration, it’s best to concentrate on new connections for better outcomes. Efficiency with positive thinking is vital to avoid quitting entirely.

Socialize

Whether you attend official business events or find yourself among peers and friends, take the opportunity to explain your dilemma and request suggestions if anyone has any. The relaxed atmosphere often brings surprise suggestions and even introductions.

Exercise and Free the Mind

Career ups and downs can quickly create frustration, followed by stress. We must tone down the stress for health reasons as we seek a career solution. While this advice sounds more annoying, a good diet, exercise, or a hike outdoors can relax the mind and increase the flow of ideas and actual possibilities.

Summarizing

By realizing lessons from past experiences, we can strive to put ourselves on a better path to move forward. Our past can point us to what we most desire, and with an extra effort of learning what that may take, we launch ourselves into a far better direction. Surprisingly, needing to find a new job or begin entrepreneurship can often be our ‘gift in disguise!’
